Trailer Analysis: Dystopian Novels

This is a new feature on the blog in which I take a specific genre and feature the trailers for three young adult titles from that genre. I provide this with the hope that it will garner interest in titles you may not have otherwise checked out. At the very least, they are here to entertain!

Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

This week’s theme: Dystopian Novels

Book 1: THE FORSAKEN by Lisa M. Stasse (2012) Amazon| Goodreads

This was shared to me by the author herself. I appreciate the fact that she thought of us when passing it along the news wire. I had not yet seen this trailer, and when I watched it I was blown away by the quality. It’s almost as nice as the the physical book itself (which, if I may add, has the most amazing cover design of 2012!) Also, I loved the choice of voice over, which speaks from the point of view of those who conduct the personality test within the story. The overhead wildlife views of The Wheel receive bonus points from this reader.

Book 2: CANDOR by Pam Bachorz (2009) Amazon | Goodreads

CANDOR is a book recommended to me by Sarah with the YA Rebels. This book is about a “Stepford Wives” inspired future society controlled by subliminal messaging. The trailer below is an excellent way to introduce yourself to this standalone story. It consists of photo slides and text, and is fairly simple, but I love that it allows the reader to imagine what the characters would look like.

Book 3: INSURGENT by Veronica Roth (2012) Amazon | Goodreads

Ok, so who HASN’T read this book? (Well, me, actually. But that’s beside the point.) Does anyone even need a trailer to convince them to buy it? Probably not. I present this book trailer here simply because it is INSANELY AWESOME to the highest degree. If you haven’t seen the trailer, yet. Check it out below!

My two favorite dystopian novels that are just really really good are “Awaken” by Katie Kacvinsky and “Partials” by Dan Wells. Seriously good writing there.

I agree! Those are two excellent dystopians. I especially love your suggestion of Awaken by Katie Kacvinsky. The book reminds me of a (terrible) short story I wrote back when I was in elementary school. It’s chilling to think that Katie’s world could come to be. Have you heard of the follow-up, Middle Ground, coming out this fall?

Yes! I cannot wait for the new book, I luckily have a Kindle and can get it exactly at midnight, otherwise I would be hunting it down at the bookstore. Katie is a wonderful author, I’ve enjoyed her books thoroughly. She and Aimee Carter are two of my new favorites in YA fiction. I am definitely putting these three books on my list to read, though!

These are great trailers! I’m even interested in reading CANDOR, which I never hear of until you posted this. But my beyond favorite trailer to date is the trailer for UNDER THE NEVER SKY by Veronica Rossi.

I had never heard of CANDOR, either, until a friend recommended it to me earlier this year. Oddly enough, I haven’t watched the trailer for Under the Never Sky yet… I think I will go check it out now! :)

Awesome new feature!!! The Forsaken trailer is one of the best I’ve seen so far – really makes me want to read the book even more. I had never heard of Candor, but it’s definitely going on my wishlist!

Somehow I hadn’t seen the Insurgent trailer – MIND BLOWINGLY good!

Thanks so much for sharing! I think this feature is a keeper. :)
