Waiting on Wednesday: The Farm

“Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases I’m eagerly anticipating. This week’s “can’t-wait-to-read” selection on Making the Grade is:

Life was different in the Before: before the Ticks began devouring humans in a deadly swarm across America; before the surviving young people were rounded up and quarantined “for their own protection.” These days, we know what those quarantines are—holding pens where human blood is turned into more food for the Ticks. Surrounded by electrical fences, most kids try to survive the Farms by turning on each other.

And when trust is a thing of the past, escape is nearly impossible.

Lily and her twin sister Mel have a plan. Though Mel can barely communicate, her autism helps her notice things no one else notices—like the portion of electrical fence that gets turned off every night. Getting across won’t be easy, but as Lily gathers what they need to escape, a familiar face appears out of nowhere, offering to help…

Carter was a schoolmate of Lily’s in the Before. Managing to evade capture until now, he has valuable knowledge of the outside world. But like everyone on the Farm, Carter has his own agenda, and he knows that behind the Ticks is an even more dangerous threat to the human race…

WHY AM I “WAITING”?

What can I say? I’ve been into zombie/monster/post-apocalyptic/survival stories lately. That cover… It makes this book appear to be super dark and creepy-creepy-creepy! Do you see? The texture in her face? Plus, human farms? A Harlequin romance author writing a monster book? Come on, this one has GOT to be interesting. I CANNOT wait.

What are you “waiting on” this week?

I had the pleasure of reading an ARC of The Farm I got at BEA – it is more than amazing! Loved it, couldn’t put it down, and cannot wait for the next one!

This book looks really interesting! I’m going to definitely have to add this one to my pile. I’m also really into dystopian/zombie/post-apocalyptic YA so this is right up my alley!

Thanks for stopping by, Emily! I *love* it when authors do that! ;) I am serious when I say I cannot wait to read your story. Kudos to you for taking the risk and jumping into this genre from writing romantic novels! WOW – total 180, right?

        Yes! Total 180!
In my romances, I’m known for writing books with billionaires and babies. People are always asking me what happened to the babies and billionaires in my future. I have to answer honestly: they were eaten.
But, of course, there is still some romance in the book. Even in a post-apocolyptic world, you still need hot guys. And chocolate. You definitely need chocolate.
